Solarpowered center with cold storage for vegetables goes into operation!
With financial support from Portuguese energy company EDP, we have completed an agricultural center with solar-powered cold storage for vegetables.
The solar-powered agricultural aggregation center includes a cold storage room, office and storage rooms, and a covered open space. The design is by our architect Daniel Schmidt.
The cold storage room is an out-of-box product from Indian manufacturer Ecozen. The model has won the prestigious Global Leap Award.
Tomatoes are already being stored in the cold storage room. Up to 45% of the harvest spoils. With the cold storage room, this figure can be radically reduced, thereby improving the income of small farmers. It is intended to become a central point of contact for professional buyers.
With the support of the Sustainable Villages Foundation, a cooperative is currently being set up to operate the cold storage room.
