New building for nursery school in Rugarama Village!
A new modern brick building was added to the one classroom nursery school we built last year.
The Foundation and the Bugesera District had already signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of a kindergarten in 2022. Early childhood development is an important part of the national education strategy. The kindergarten was built by a local construction company between autumn 2022 and spring 2023. In the first construction phase, it consists of one classroom, an office, a kitchen and toilets. Almost 100 children were enrolled, taught by two teachers. Lunch meals are provided from the nearby EP Juru.
In early 2024, the construction works to extend the nursery school started. Two classrooms, a covered outdoor space, an additional toilet building and a garden were be added.
The design was made by our architect Daniel Schmidt. Construction works were carried out by an experienced Rwandan company.
The roofing party took place in March 2024 with about 100 adult guests and many more children. Representatives of the German Embassy, the Bugesera District, the Catholic Church and the local authorities held speeches. Local artist performed a traditional dance show.
The nursery school has meanwhile roughly 200 students and four teachers with more students and teachers to come in September 2024.
