The 2024 scholarship programme launched!

In 2024, we awarded four vocational school scholarships to attend Akagera International School. Two in tourism and two in IT.

By 2023, we had already awarded five scholarships for a one-year course at a vocational school: Emerita was trained as a hairdresser, Sylvie as a taylor, and Egide and Thierry as car mechanics. They are currently doing internships. The next step is for us to help them find a job. Diane could only start her training as a hairdresser in September 2024 for formal reasons.

In summer 2024, we awarded four more scholarships. In cooperation with the headmaster of the largest secondary school in our project area, we selected two young women and two young men who had done very well in the national ‘O-Level’ exams at the end of 9th grade, but who would not be able to afford a good further education without our support.

The vocational school we have carefully selected is the Akagera International School in Kirehe district. Lessons are taught in English. The four young people are boarders.

Emelyne and Jacqueline are being trained in the field of tourism, Jean-Pierre and Patrick in IT. The training and scholarship will run for three years. The scholarship covers the school fees, including boarding and lodging. In the first few months of the training, we will also finance an English teacher to teach the four students.
